Athlete Nominees page.
Each of the following scholar athletes have been recognized and honoured at our Gulf Coast Athletic Club for their individual outstanding performance on the field or court and for their excellence in the classroom.
Each nominee will be entered into our scholarship pool, where our GCAC board of directors will review and vote for one outstanding male and female scholar athlete.

$3,500 Scholarship Award Winners!
Erin Corcoran and Jyon Corbett
Erin and Jyon will both receive a $3,500 Scholarship Award.
The GCAC, through the hard work of their members and partnered sponsors, were able to increase the scholarship award
to the highest in the clubs history.
Erin & Jyon were chosen from a distinguished list of Scholar Athletes from the Gulf Shores High School. We wish nothing but continued success in the futures of both our winners and all the Nominees.

Annalane Lee and Vincent Russo
Annalane Lee:
My name is Annalane Lee and I am a senior at Gulf Shores High School. I recently moved to Orange Beach, Alabama from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
I am a member of the National Honors Society, International Club, HOSA Club, Juniorettes, and Key Club. I have been a dual sport varsity athlete for all four years of high school in cross country and swimming.
Through these four years I have been blessed with many opportunities, some of them include: Being a cross country team captain for two years, being selected on the All-Metro Swim Team for Baton Rouge Swimmers for two years, and being a part of five winning state championship teams.
The people who inspire me are my family. Each and everyone of them are my role models. They are all hard working, loving, and dedicated. They challenge me to be a better person everyday. I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the beach, and taking pictures!
I have been recruited to be an athlete in college by several schools. I was recruited by
Centenary College of Louisiana for swimming and triathlons, Birmingham Southern College for swimming, and University of West Alabama for triathlons. I have verbally committed and chosen to pursue my passion for swimming and my education at Birmingham Southern College.
I plan to go into pre-medical studies to be either a physical therapist or a physician’s
assistant.
I am honored and privileged that I have been nominated for this scholarship! Thank you for all of your support for Gulf Shores High School and the Athletic Department! Geaux Dolphins!

Vincent Russo:
It is an honor and a privilege to be picked for this scholarship opportunity.
I have been accepted to Auburn University and I plan to study mechanical engineering after I graduate high school.
I would like to intern at an automotive company during my senior year to become established with a job career. I have always been interested in cars and how they work and how to improve them.

Caitlyn Wyers and Devon Swainston
Caitlyn Wyers:
I am Caitlyn Wyers and I play varsity basketball and softball.
I would have to say that I am inspired by my mom who does not let me settle for being average.
My role model is my brother because he is a great person all around.
I plan on studying Physical Therapy at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
Devon Swainston:
I am Devon Swainston. I have played football since the fourth
grade, basketball since the third, and a four time state qualifier for track.
My dream is to continue both football and track, or at least one at the collegiate level.
I was also a 2017 Boys State delegate. I am inspired by people who face adversities,
but still find a way to overcome the hardship to achieve their goals.
My dad is my role model because he is the most self-motivated, selfless and definitely the bravest person I know. He is currently serving in Afghanistan for his fourth year long deployment.
I am undecided on where I plan to attend college, but I am interested in pursuing a bachelors degree in physical therapy.

Erin Corcoran:
I am a senior at Gulf Shores High School currently serving as president of SGA, Vice President of Juniorettes,and Vice President of International Club.
This past summer I was chosen as Gulf Shores High Schools delegate at the Alabama Girls State conference where I got to learn more about leadership and our state government.
I have been a member of the volleyball team all four years of high school and am currently in my senior season. I also am a member of the bowling team, which went to the state tournament last year and finished 9th overall.
I plan to attend college next year and studying nursing with hopes of becoming a nurse practitioner. My school choice is still undecided but I have been busy applying to many universities already this fall.
I have many role models that I look up to and am fortunate to have four older siblings who are always there for me. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and going out on the boat and of course getting ready for the upcoming bowling season. State round 2!

Jyon Corbett:
My name is Jyon Corbett. As a three-year starter on both the football and wrestling teams I have learned the value of hard work, dedication, and teamwork.
The thrill of competition inspires me to work to be the best I can be. I strive for greatness on the field and in the classroom leading to a 3.89 GPA and a 25 ACT score.
In my free time I enjoy boating, spearfishing, and going to the beach. It is a dream of mine to play football at the next level, and earn a master's degree in engineering while doing so.
Thank you for this opportunity and all the support the GCAC has given Gulf Shores High School.

Garrett Newman and Addison Gray
Garrett Newman Addison Gray
My name is Addison Gray and I am a senior at Gulf Shores High School. I am currently a varsity basketball player as well as the commanding officer for the NJROTC unit at Gulf Shores High School. I am a member of Equality club, Friends of Exceptional Students club, and Juniorettes.
My grandparents are my biggest role models; they have taught me to overcome all the challenges I may face and have also helped strengthen my relationship with the Lord.
I will be attending the University of Southern Mississippi in the fall and studying Pediatric Psychology as well as minoring in Special Education.
My name is Garrett Newman. My parents are Tim and Stacy Newman. I have two siblings a younger sister Riley a freshman at Gulf Shores High School and an older brother Jackson who graduated from Gulf Shores High School last May. I enjoy being outdoors fishing, hunting and playing sports. Since entering High School I have played varsity football, where I was a two way starter this past season, baseball, golf and was a state qualifier on the wrestling team last year and hope to return to the state championships again this year.
I am inspired by my coaches and teachers who have helped me understand that for every success I have there is always a sacrifice. One of the best lessons I have learned is the lesson of responsibility. The key to being successful is having the responsibility to others, such as giving everything you have on the field for your teammates or helping others when asked or just listing and being a friend when someone is having a rough time.
My role models are my Mom and Dad having taught me that God and Family come first. They have taught me how to be a hard worker and that no matter what I am doing to always do my very best. This is something I have learned growing up by watching them in their business and being coached by my dad.
Being a student at Gulf Shores High School has been a very good experience. I am currently a student in the Fire Science Academy, which has taught me a lot about serving the community and what goes into being a EMT and Fireman. Although I have enjoyed the Fire Science Academy it is my Aqua Science Class at Gulf Shores High that has inspired my career choice. I never thought that raising fish or other aquatic species was a real a career prior the Aqua Science Class. I have already been accepted to attend Auburn University and will study in their College of Agriculture, which is one of the top Aquaculture programs in the country. Yes I plan on becoming a Farmer…
I am also planning to Walk-On the football program as a Fullback this fall.
